Each year, one graduating senior German major is selected in the United States to receive the senior scholarship for post-graduate study abroad work. This senior must be a member of Delta Phi Alpha, have demonstrated excellence in the field of German Studies, and intend to further her/his German studies after graduation. The graduating senior must also intend to proceed directly with graduate work upon returning to the U.S and apply for a DAAD grant if named the recipient of the prize.
This student will be recognized by Delta Phi Alpha as the most outstanding graduating senior and will receive a cash prize of $2500.
In addition, each year a sophomore or junior is selected to receive a prize of $1500 to help defray costs of study abroad in a German-speaking country. Applicants, who must be members of Delta Phi Alpha, should present a plan for study abroad with the application.
DEADLINE: The ABSOLUTE deadline for receipt of the scholarship applications is Nov. 1st.
For both scholarships, students should submit the following materials via email to firstname.lastname@example.org
I: A single document (.pdf preferred) containing
1. Name, date of birth, graduation year, permanent mailing address, and full contact information.
2. Name of University & DPA chapter, year of induction.
3. A list of all German courses taken at the University level
4. A personal statement indicating how the scholarship and study abroad opportunity will impact the student’s future. (not to exceed 3 pages, double spaced)
II Please send a scanned copy of complete university level transcripts indicating overall GPA. (pdf preferred)
III Two letters of recommendation under separate cover. One of which must be from a German professor from the student’s institution.
File naming convention: Please submit pdf files when possible. Please begin the electronic file name with the last name of the student applicant.
For example: a transcript would be named VogelweideTranscript.pdf, the application would be named VogelweideDPAseniorscholarshipapplication.pdf
The student materials should be sent as one email when possible to email@example.com
Letters of recommendation should be sent separately to firstname.lastname@example.org.
