Starting in 2015, Delta Phi Alpha, the National German Honor Society, will fund two travel scholarships for Spring / Summer study in a German-speaking country in the amount of $1,250.
It is a distinct pleasure to announce the first of our two scholarship recipients, Sophia Croll, a junior at Knox College. Sophia will study next semester at the Universität Flensburg, in Schleswig-Holstein. A joint History and German major and a member of her college’s Honors Program, Sophia will use the semester to become more proficient in German language and familiar with German culture in preparation for her fascinating research project, “The Memory of Catastrophe: Changing Narratives of Mass Death in German Memorials.” Congratulations Sophia, and best of luck in Flensburg!
Equally impressive is our second winner Amber Kline, a junior at Butler University. Majoring in Biology and German, Amber will put her award money towards her semester at the Universität Tübingen. Amber, an excellent student, plans to take classes in German and Biology in Tübingen. She hopes to use her skills in German language and culture in her future endeavors, and does not rule out the possibility of graduate studies in Germany somewhere down the line. This will be her first trip abroad and we wish her the best of luck during her semester in Germany. Congratulations Amber!
